It is time to brace yourself for another subsidy cut. Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek recently said that consumer must be prepared for the possibility of price hike in sugar and flour prices although government has maintained there will be no more sugar and flour hike after the recent petrol hike. The cut of such subsidies are expected as government implements a lot of austerity measures recently.

The purpose so subsidy removal is to strengthen nation’s economy while effects on prices of goods are minimal. As budget 2014 draws closer, there may be more drastic moves to reduce subsidy in Malaysia
