AKPK vs Bankruptcy

AKPK stands for Agensi Kaunseling and Pengurusan Kredit. AKPK is setup by Bank Negara to help the rising number of debtors who are in serious financial situation. Now you may want to consider AKPK as an option if you are in deep financial strain and close to bankruptcy with no other ways to repay your debts. Services are provided free of charge by AKPK.

You can drop at AKPK for a visit at and you will be assigned with a credit counselor. You can find counselling and advices with regards to your financial situation.

Debt Management Program (DMP)

As for non-secured loan (credit cards, personal loans), you may want to consider applying for AKPK’s( Debt Management Program).  You will be assess whether you can quality for DMP. Once your application has been approved, AKPK will find all your outstanding banks in CCRIS and will renegoiate your debts with bank for much lower interest rates and longer repayment period.

Since AKPK is under Bank Negara, most banks would accept AKPK’s term. You should be able to get much more lower interest rates and spread your repayment terms much longer. Banks will not be able to take any legal actions against you for the first 3 months upon entry to AKPK’s DMP program. All your credit cards will also be freezed upon entering this program.

 

AKPK Blacklist

Although countless Malaysians have benefited from AKPK’s DMP, this may be a short term solution. Unfortunately, banks and financial institutions do have AKPK DMP lists on their database system. Once you have enrolled with AKPK programs, there will be very little chance that you can secure any form of loans (for example car loans, house loans) from banks in the future , there are some who got lucky. This is however a better option than being declared bankrupt.

 

What should you do before enrolling on AKPK ? 

You should always consider finding your bank first to renegotiate the terms of your loan before opting for DMP. Inform them of your situation and perhaps you can find a win win solution with your bank. Some banks will let you convert your credit card debts into term loan rate or you can lengthen your personal loan to lower down the repayment sum.
